Faculty Micro-Credentialing Program Dr. Kirk Young President, Western Wyoming Community College

Upon my arrival here at the college, I immediately began exploring the topic of incorporating badging into our institutional framework. I came from a higher education system where badging had been proven to be a highly successful way to track and encourage professional and academic growth. I was very grateful to see that Rhonda was already highly invested in this topic, and had already implemented some steps toward utilizing this concept to strengthen faculty growth and development. Soon after discussing this subject, Rhonda produced a paper that provided an extensive review of the concept, along with several recommendations for ways we could expand the practice here at the college. I can confidently say that Rhonda possesses significant expertise in this subject matter and would definitely be an asset to any organization considering the implementation of a badging program.

Faculty Micro-Credentialing Program Eva Hedger English Adjunct Instructor, Western Wyoming Community College

Participating in the first Online Teaching Presence badge course, developed by Dr. Rhonda Gamble, was a really valuable experience for me, and a big part of that was the way it was facilitated. Dr. Gamble created a space that felt supportive, engaging, and genuinely open to ideas and feedback. It didn’t feel like a one-way training—there was real collaboration, and I appreciated how responsive she was to participant input, particularly from me. Being part of that first cohort made it feel like we were helping shape something meaningful, and her approach made it easy to stay engaged and invested throughout the process.

The badge itself has become one of the more unique additions to my resume and annual evaluations, especially as a way to highlight the importance of engaging with students—and with each other—when teaching virtually. It also was highly responsible for the enhancements I was able to make to my course and to engage in a more meaningful way with my students.

I’ve also really valued the additional professional development opportunities Dr. Gamble has continued to offer, particularly around Artificial Intelligence and digital accessibility. These sessions have been timely and thoughtfully designed, giving us a chance to connect with colleagues while also learning in a way that feels both rigorous and manageable. As someone balancing a more than full workload, I’ve appreciated how accessible they are while still helping me strengthen how I design courses that better connect with students.

Human Research Training Kristine Clark IRB Chair & Professor Excercise Science & Nutrition, Western Wyoming Community College

I tasked Rhonda and her team with development an in-house, interactive training module on the ethical practice of human research, which is required to initiating any research involving human participants. This internal training was designed for campus faculty and students.

Rhonda did an excellent job transforming the materials I provided into an updated, engaging, and interactive training modules. The module includes a post-training quiz, and participants who successfully pass receive a certificate of completion. This work was instrumental in creating a clear and accessible pathway for conducting human research on our campus, particularly supporting and expanding opportunities for our student research population.

Tiger Tutoring- Peer Tutoring Program Ian Fletcher Economics PhD Candidate, Teton Lab Assistant Director, University of Wyoming

Dr. Gamble’s Tiger Tutor program changed the trajectory of my academic life. After high school, I went on to tutor math at the University of Wyoming. I was the go-to calculus tutor and was selected to tutor athletes who needed extra support. Every time I sat across from a struggling student or a nervous athlete, I was drawing on skills I learned from her. She taught us that tutoring is more than mastering the content in a course; it’s about being patient, being adaptable, and building students’ confidence so they believe they can succeed. Now, as a PhD Candidate in economics, I see those same principles at work in how I teach, mentor, research, and communicate complex ideas to all audiences. The tutor program and the courses Dr. Gamble taught aren’t just boxes to check during high school. They are a system she designed to be durable and sustainable and one that I still rely on almost a decade later.

Fulltime Faculty Michelle Zuppa Department Chair English & Humanities Associate Professor of English Composition, Western Wyoming Community College

As English faculty at Western Wyoming Community College, I’ve had the pleasure of working with Rhonda Gamble, Director of our Center for Teaching and Learning, for the past three years. In this time, Rhonda has impressed me with her knowledge, problem-solving abilities, and caring nature. Instructors could count on regular training sessions from Rhonda and her team on pertinent topics ranging from engagement, online presence, mapping learning outcomes, and coping with artificial intelligence. On this last topic, Rhonda offered resources as soon as it was clear that this topic was a major challenge, providing syllabus language to suit different instructor preferences, strategies for using AI detectors, and guidance for incorporating ethical AI use in the classroom and to make our own workloads more manageable. Rhonda is also helpful with one-on-one concerns. She and I have discussed discussion post strategies, different AI use assignments, handling issues with students, accommodations, and even strategies for norming and consistently applying rubric standards on writing assignments. Rhonda’s information is always research-based, collaborative, and up to date. She is also always kind, caring, and aware of faculty concerns. I recommend her very highly and know that she will make significant contributions to any organization she serves.

Adjunct Faculty Jodi Schell Pscyhology Adjunct Instructor, Western Wyoming Community College

During my time working with Rhonda Gamble, Ed.D., I found her instructional design expertise invaluable. Her weekly updates and suggestions for incorporating new technology into an online class, coupled with her ability to listen to my specific ideas, really set her apart. By actively listening to my goals, she helped me figure out how to showcase my content through PowerPoint presentations that I had previously been unable to display correctly. When I struggled to create interactive buttons that would engage my class, she didn’t just fix the problem; she took the time to make sure I understood how it worked. In short, Rhonda not only has the technology to build an online class but also the personality to help an instructor feel they can maintain their role as subject-matter expert.

As a Professor of Mathematics and Chair of the Mathematics department, I had the privilege of working closely with Rhonda during her time as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning, and her impact on our department was immediate and meaningful. Accessibility in mathematics comes with unique challenges, and Rhonda not only understood that complexity but took initiative without hesitation. In what felt like the blink of an eye, she provided the Math Department with several clear, practical options for improving accessibility, allowing us to move forward quickly and confidently. Rather than offering generic guidance, she partnered with us, listened carefully to our needs, and helped identify sustainable solutions that respected both disciplinary rigor and inclusive design. Artificial Intelligence and Stem Instructional Support Dr. Randy Goff Associate Professor of Chemistry, Western Wyoming Community College

I was fortunate to work with Rhonda Gamble for several semesters at Western Wyoming Community College. In her role as director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), Rhonda was a valuable source of knowledge for me when it came to designing course content to effectively instruct undergraduate STEM students. During her time at Western, when the use of AI in higher education was coming into prominence, Rhonda helped me develop an assignment to assess how AI could help chemistry students develop their own study tools for exam preparation. Having someone with her expertise in instructional design was helpful and provided me with guidance on improving my own teaching methods.

Artificial Intelligence Professional Development Alan Wendlandt Instructional Designer, Western Wyoming Community College

At Western Wyoming Community College, we intentionally designed our AI professional development to meet faculty where they were, recognizing that AI disruption affects instructors at very different levels of comfort and readiness. Our Center for Teaching and Learning team, led by Rhonda, used Levels of Use surveys to better understand how faculty were currently engaging with AI and where their concerns and needs existed. This data directly informed how we structured our sessions, allowing us to address issues that were specific and relevant to Western rather than relying on generic AI guidance. From my perspective as the instructional designer, this approach was successful because it not only shaped more targeted professional development but also gave us valuable background knowledge to differentiate our one-on-one support, helping faculty move forward in ways that aligned with their individual teaching contexts and goals.

Artificial Intelligence Early Adopter Nicole Hartford English Adjunct Instructor, Western Wyoming Community College

Dr. Rhonda Gamble is one of the most dedicated instructional designers I have ever met. We worked together on creating an AI Literacy “Lunch and Learn” at Western Wyoming Community College, and her excitement for bringing innovative learning opportunities to our faculty was refreshing and exciting. Rhonda and I were the early voices on our campus regarding AI Literacy and inclusion in instruction. She took my initial idea of providing educational opportunities for faculty regarding how AI can be used in college classrooms and created an entire AI course that faculty could complete and be compensated for. She was a driving force in re-framing Generative AI in education from something many instructors were fearful of, to something they could learn and use themselves, but also teach ethical use to students. Not only did Rhonda offer a way for faculty to be paid for learning about AI, but as an instructor she integrated AI Literacy into her courses for her students to learn, being among one of the first instructors on campus to see the importance of teaching ethical AI use to students.

Impacts on Teaching Practices Christopher Propst Professor of English, Western Wyoming Community College

I know Rhonda through her role as Director of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Western Wyoming College. Since she’s taken over that role, she’s created a great resource for instructors at our college, truly creating both a space and program that nurtures and inspires educators to be the best teachers they can be.

Near the beginning of her tenure, Rhonda solicited the faculty about whether they might need help in their classes. As an English instructor who took over a larger role with our college’s development students, I went to the CTL for help in engaging my face to face students. Rhonda and her staff were very helpful and gave me some good advice , especially in summarizing class material at end of classes and making sure to allow in-class work with a wandering, engaged presence. Their feedback helped me to increase the retention rate in those classes.

Because of that positive experience, I decided to join the “Online Teaching Presence” cohort, and again received a great learning experience in strengthening my online classes. One thing I really appreciated was how much Rhonda, and through her leadership, her staff, “walk the talk” in modeling great structure, assessment, and student mindedness in how the cohort was setup like an online class. In teaching us the COI (Community of Inquiry) model, she was keenly aware of all three aspects of the model: social, cognitive, and teaching presence. In the social realm, she gave us all chances to learn and meet with one another (some instructors were part time and/or off campus). For the “cognitive” aspect, she frequently gave us time to reflect on our own work in creating tangible, practical changes in our courses. Lastly, in her teaching presence, the course was a perfect model of using videos, direction icons, self-paced study, and the best practices in engaging students; moreover, she frequently was responsive to our reflections, adjusting class material as needed. In all of my online courses, I made several specific changes, adding more videos, and in asking students about the feedback I give them on their assignments—that has raised my class evaluation scores, and I’ll see at least 4-5 comments from students at the end of the year about how “this is their favorite class.” I credit that to Rhonda and the CTL staff, and it was great to get a real badge for Online Learning Presence!

Aside from all the expertise and teaching knowledge that makes Rhonda such a great professional, I’ve also appreciated her kind demeanor and accessibility, not to mention the leadership she’s given in her position.

Student-Centered Teaching, Instructional Leadership Deb Jensen Science Instructor, Rock Springs High School Wyoming Biology Teacher of the Year, National Association of Biology Teachers

Rhonda has been a fixture in my life for the last 20 years. I have worked with her as a coach. She has helped me in my classroom with different technology questions. She is a valued colleague and a friend. Rhonda is a strong, intelligent, hardworking person. She has a lot to offer.

Coaching Speech and Debate with Rhonda taught me so many things. She has a gift for talking to kids. Her kind and gentle manner of speaking and interacting puts kids at ease so they want to talk to her and they are comfortable being vulnerable with her. This creates a climate and culture where kids can fail and learn from the process. The team saw great success. We took kids to national competitions every year. We successfully hosted several large meets in our town. Rhonda was invaluable. She has a mind that can accept and process large amounts of data quickly. She could work through the intricacies of organizing the rooms, the different rounds of competition, and the scoring quickly and accurately. She was able to communicate how we could help very effectively.

Watching Rhonda teach and interact with her students was fun. She could reach just about any child and help them feel safe and valued. I had a parent share with me an experience they had with Rhonda. Their child had a very rare disorder. The student was struggling a bit understanding the content in the class. They met with Rhonda and explained how the disorder worked. Rhonda’s first response was gratitude for sharing and assurance that their child’s needs would be met. From that day foreword, Rhonda was that child’s favorite teacher. The parents were amazed at her skill to adapt her teaching style so quickly. Rhonda wrote lessons that were accessible for kids of all learning abilities. She could use technology in a way that let kids actually learn applicable information. She is a master teacher and lesson planner.

Over the last several years our school has been integrating many different technology tools. Rhonda has been incredibly helpful to the district. When we brought Canvas to the building, she was the advisor for the whole building. She created and shared videos that broke complex tasks into easy steps for even the most non-technical teachers in the building. She responded to all questions quickly and patiently. Most of the people in my building owe their use of Canvas to Rhonda and her lessons.

Rhonda is a talented individual. She is gifted at reading people and knowing how to help them feel valued. She is fluent in data and how to translate it for the general public. Rhonda would be an incredibly helpful addition to any program.

Instructional Efficacy & Adjunct Support Sam Cozzens Adjunct Chemistry Instructor Western Wyoming Community College

Dr. Gamble is a marvelous in-person teacher. She taught my twin daughters in AP classes in high school, and they related how well those classes prepared them for college learning by developing their critical thinking skills. She taught them to think in depth and motivated them to love the process of learning. Our daughters scored very well on their AP exams in large part, due to her preparation. Her kindness, devotion, experience, unselfishness, and knowledge benefited students and their families for many years. While teaching a busy full-time schedule at Rock Springs High School, Rhonda completed her doctorate degree. A few years ago, she made the transition to leading a team of educators at Western Wyoming Community College (WWCC) for online learning. When she started at WWCC her team met with me to make suggestions on how I could better connect with my students and make their learning more effective. Her suggestions demonstrated a high degree of experience, education, and practicality. Once implemented, several of her recommendations improved my student’s learning experience. Not only did her team meet with me initially, but they continued to support my efforts with online education. There were real improvements implemented at WWCC due to Dr. Gamble’s leadership and knowledge. She is an excellent educator and always has her priorities correct-the teaching and learning of students. Her vast wealth of knowledge with in-classroom teaching coupled with her experience and education in on-line learning makes her a most valuable asset. I strongly recommend her for any professional endeavor she undertakes.
